Album Review: Los Bitchos // Let The Festivities Begin

Fresh from a tour with Mac DeMarco, Los Bitchos launch in style with their debut LP.

The band formed as Serra Petale (guitar), Agustina Ruiz (keytar), Josefine Jonsson (bass) and Nic Crawshaw (drums) met at house parties across London. The band’s unique mix of Turkish Psych, retro-futurism and Pet Sounds style guitars, Let The Festivities Begin is a riot from start to finish.

The members of Los Bitchos hail from across the world, with each musician bringing fresh angles, sounds and ideas. These are the building blocks to the band’s intense mix of psychedelia, Americana and so much more: with these distinct influences tie together magically. Let The Festivities Begin is also full of catchy, poppy hooks that will leave you humming cuts like ‘I Enjoy it’, ‘FFS’ and ‘Tropico’ for days on end.

Enlisting Alex Kapranos of Franz Ferdinand behind the desk on Let The Festivities Begin, the album captures the band at their shimmering best – they have been able to recreate the magical, ethereal experience of a Los Bitchos gig. Let The Festivities Begin is also uplifting, happy and joyful, as the title suggests: “It’s about being together and having a really good time,” says the band and this energy is palpable throughout. The record is triumphant and fun – a real explosion of pent up party vibes, held in for two years of lockdown.

The closer, ‘Lindsay Goes to Myknos’ is a post-punk banger with classic rock flavour, surf-rock vibes: it’s awash with superb guitar and fantastic instrumentation. Let The Festivities Begin is a true showcase of a band at the peak of their powers.
