Arcade Fire release video for ‘Chemistry’

Having released their long-awaited fifth album, Everything Now, just under a year ago – Arcade Fire have released a video for their latest album offcut, ‘Chemistry’.

Directed by Ray Tintori and animated by Rick and Morty’s Starburns Industries, the video expands on the song’s theme of chemical attraction turning it into a cartoon about a dog and cat who meet and fall in love at her wedding reception.

Collaborating with Tintori – whose work ranges from videos for MGMT to creating the debut film for Google’s Tilt Brush – has been on Win Butler of Arcade Fire’s mind for years. He said:

We’ve been big fans of Ray’s work since his early videos and there was talk of collaborating during The Suburbs shoot–we were going to film it in New Orleans but then it got moved to Austin at the last minute, and Ray was caught up working on Beasts of the Southern Wild. So it was very full circle to finally be working with him in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. There is a playful, carnivalesque energy to the song; to capture that by filming literally during carnival felt right.”

Arcade Fire are set to resume their Everything Now Continued world tour tonight in Rotterdam, before heading across the US and Europe for a series of festival appearances. Full tour dates can be found here.
