After ending 2016 and bringing in the new year by selling out tours of both the UK and US respectively, Jorja Smith is undoubtedly a name to take a note of. At the tender age of just 19, the soulful RnB artist from Walsall experienced a stellar breakthrough last year, with 2017 sure to be equally impressive.
Last November, Smith released her debut EP, Project 11, which received critical acclaim from not only the likes of BBC Radio 1 and 1Xtra, but also across the pond on Apple Music’s Beats 1 station. This was a huge factor in Smith coming fourth in the BBC’s Sound of 2017 poll, placing just two places below the hugely popular Rag ‘N’ Bone Man.
Earlier in the year she also garnered significant attention from man-of-the-moment Drake, who named her track Where Did I Go? as his favourite song at the time of an interview with Entertainment Weekly. Subsequently, Smith made an appearance on the Canadian rapper’s latest release, More Life – gracing the album with her presence on Get It Together.
April marks the start of Smith hitting the road again for her 2017 UK tour – and we implore you to catch her if you can:
