Olivia Rodrigo follows up ‘Drivers License’ with ‘Deja Vu’, announces debut album

Having exploded onto the popular music scene with ‘Drivers License‘ at the start of the year, Olivia Rodrigo has followed up the record-breaking track with ‘Deja Vu’

The retrospective track sees Rodrigo details the suspicion that one’s ex-significant other is now doing everything that made a relationship special — with someone else. Beginning the track as a slower piano ballad, the singer recounts: “Car rides to Malibu / Strawberry ice cream / One spoon for two / And trading jackets / Laughing ’bout how small it looks on you.”

The track then slowly builds, becoming a wall of crunching guitars, setting the track far away from its predecessor. “The concept of deja vu has always fascinated me and I thought it would be cool to use it in a song around the complex feelings after a relationship ends,” Rodrigo says. “I started writing and recording ‘Deja Vu’ last fall and had so much fun creating the different melodies and sonic textures that you hear throughout.”

Accompanying the new track is the announcement that Rodrigo’s debut album is on the way. Set to hit your favourite streaming platform next month, May 21st, few details are available on the album so far.
