What are we saying, RIOT readers? Festival season is truly back underway and life is looking rather good again. Team RIOT are posting this week’s radar from Wales’ Green Man festival and words can’t do justice to how good it feels to see festival-goers frolicking in the Brecon Beacons. Pandemic who?
Keep sticking those swabs up your nose, keep tabs of your Covid status, and let the good times roll.
Best tunes of the week below.
Parquet Courts // Walking at a Downtown Pace
The NY artrockers are returning with a brand new album. Sympathy For Life will be out October 22nd and promises to be heavily influenced by the dance parties where the Parquet members would let loose pre-pandemic. Colour us excited.
Remi Wolf // Quiet On Set
Remi Wolf is at it again with more chaotic, off-kilter pop bangers. Released alongside another new tune, ‘Grumpy Old Man’, ‘Quiet On Set’ punctuates the announcement of Remi’s debut album, Juno.
Bad Sounds // You Move Backwards (feat. Ruti)
Bad Sounds continue to release one feel-good indie dancefloor jam after another. ‘You Move Backwards’ sees the duo leaning into their 90s pop influences with some rather dreamy vocals, courtesy of Ruti.
The Goon Sax // Desire
The Brisbane band have harnessed all of their lofty charm and captured the mood perfectly on film. ‘Desire’ features on The Goon Sax recent album, Mirror II – if you haven’t checked it out yet, then where have you been?!
Pynch // Karaoke
After releasing one our favourite tracks of the past couple of years, ‘Somebody Else‘, Pynch have dusted off the ol drum machine once more for ‘Karaoke’. This new offering uses dreamy synths to build to a crescendo, full of raw lo-fi goodness.
Cathy Jain // artificial
YALA!’s 17 year old alt-pop prodigy will be dropping her new EP 5th November, with title track ‘artificial’ pairing lazy bedroom pop with chill R&B songwriting. Now is the time to familiarise yourself with Cathy: she’ll be everywhere soon.
Swim School // See Red
Edinburgh’s Swim School have unveiled their debut EP, and what an entrance it is. A little bit of Wolf Alice, a little bit of Dream Wife, with a dose of YONAKA’s powerpop bite. The 4-piece will be appearing at this year’s All Points East festival, definitely worth a watch.
Sunnbrella // Pauline
Sunnbrella had us at our very first listen back in spring. Nothing fits the final stretch of summer like reverb-heavy slacker pop, and sunnbrella has that in abundance! David Zbirka will be bringing his sunnbrella project to a headline show in Hackney on 2nd September and we’ll see you there.
