King Krule // Flimsier
The opening track from King Krule’s new album Space Heavy, ‘Flimsier’ is exemplary of the record’s woozy, minimalist balladry. Space Heavy sees Archy Marshall leaning into more vulnerable lyricism and wearing his heart on his sleeve as he hits album number 4.
PinkPantheress // Angel
An original PinkPantheress track created for summer’s hotly anticipated Barbie movie was always going to be an irresistibly sugary proposition. Add production from Mark Ronson and – checks notes – a Celtic fiddle sample to the mix and ‘Angel’ is the unlikely banger you never knew you needed.
Romy // Loveher
The XX’s Romy is finally set to release her debut solo album Mid Air in September, having dropped her inaugural single ‘Lifetime’ in 2020. Intimate vocal inflections on the verses of ‘Loveher’, reminiscent of Romy’s work with her trio, are paired with a euphoric chorus which is entirely her own.
JOHN // Service Stationed
JOHN firmly announced themselves with the unshakable heft of 2021 LP Nocturnal Manoeuvres and, judging by new single ‘Service Stationed’, their forthcoming follow up A Life Diagrammatic is set to complete a near-flawless one-two combo.
Organ Morgan // The Argument
Ex-Blaenavon drummer Harris McMillan has knocked us sideways with ‘The Argument’. On the surface the track is an unassuming slice of indie with subtle folk tendencies, but it’s a hell of a grower; quietly powerful and endlessly endearing.
Wombo // Slab
Kentucky’s Wombo share new EP and ‘Slab’ namesake today via Fire Talk Records. Slab EP sees the trio pairing dreamy, detached vocals with thumping indie-pop instrumentation; revisiting the winning formula of 2022 album Fairy Rust.
