This week has marked the return of the NME awards, which saw The 1975, Taylor Swift and Slipknot all picking up gongs. Other winners on the night include Slowthai and Mura Masa taking home the trophy for Best collaboration, Slowthai and Katherine Ryan picking up Worst collaboration, Slowthai being presented with Hero of the year, before Slowthai won the award for Most Slagged off Man on the Internet. Busy night.
We hope that you enjoy your Valentines weekend, RIOT Readers, and don’t be disheartened if you don’t have any female company this year. The Reading and Leeds lineup have almost none whatsoever and they seem to be doing ok.
The Strokes – At the Door
As the world descends into chaos, we can always thank God for The Strokes. The Indie heroes have announced a new album and undersell show at London’s Roundhouse for 2020. MG
Billie Eilish – No Time to Die
The James Bond franchise has added to it’s legendary alumni of theme songs with this haunting release from the mist current name in pop. MG
Arlo Parks – Eugene
One of Riot’s Ones to Watch 2020, Arlo Parks, sings about the blurred lines between romantic and platonic love in this, with a Loyle Carner-directed video to boot. MG
Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever – Cars in Space
Rolling Blackout Coastal Fever are coming to the UK in support of Tame Impala’s All Points East set in the summer. Sitting somewhere between beer-can rock (a genre we just invented) and melancholic Beach-Indie, R.B.C.F are a joyous listen. MG
PREGOBLIN – Love Letters
South London’s PREGOBLIN have rescued the loose Valentine’s theme for us with new track ‘Love Letters’. A mainstay in the band’s live set for awhile now, slurred vocals flitter from male to female in this duet, check out the rest of their catalogue. MG
