RIOT’s Release Radar #027

As this week’s heatwave has us slowly melting as we try and cool off in the paddling pool we’ve popped in our living room (please don’t tell our landlord…) to keep us somewhat functioning as we scour our Spotify for this week’s biggest bangers.

But while we are sweltering, Beirut is in the initial stages of a huge operation to recover from the shocking explosion there earlier this week. So dear reader, if you do have a spare fiver we suggest having one less beer garden pint this weekend and donating it instead to one of the amazing charities working on the ground in Lebanon. If you don’t know where to donate we suggest checking out this NYT article which lists dozens of non-profits who are currently active in the region.

So now, grab your fan, sit back, relax, and enjoy our tracks of the week.

Declan McKenna // Be An Astronaut

With his new album, Zeros, arriving later this month, Dec has channelled his inner Bowie, moreso than ever before in ‘Be An Astronaut’. MG

Greentea Peng // Hu Man

South London’s Greentea Peng has applied her self-coined brand of ‘psychedelic RnB’ to new track ‘Hu Man’. Check out the video, shot by Felix Brady. MG

Matt Maltese // madhouse

Taken from the fresh madhouse EP, Matt Maltese continues to relentlessly release instantly likeable tracks to soundtrack these sweaty summer evenings. MG

Oscar Lang // Get Out

Dirty Hit’s dark horse continues to rise, with this wavy number. Think Stone Roses covering the Beatles’ psychedelic days, with a healthy injection of pop. MG

Childe // Just Me

Childe appeared from nowhere with debut single ‘Bad Ideas’ earlier this year, before going quiet again. Follow up offering ‘Just Me’ shows a more chilled side to the artist and we can’t wait to see more of him. MG

Pinkshift // I’m Gonna Tell My Therapist On You

‘I’m Gonna Tell My Therapist On You’ is newly released single from Pinkshift, a band that feels like it spontaneously rose out of the hellfire that is Destroy Boys. A song with a sick-of-his-shit feminist twist and gritty guitars, this tune is perfect for your badass vibes playlist. CS
