Having lent his voice on more tracks than we could name, South London’s Sampha released his heartbreakingly beautiful debut album earlier this year. With tracks like ‘(No One Knows Me) Like The Piano’ gaining widespread praise for their understated brilliance, Process marked a signal of intent by Sampha to forge his own trademark sound – and it’s one that truly speaks to the soul. With this, it’s no surprise that Process was awarded the 2017 Mercury Prize.
Described by our writer Jonno Mack as a coming of age album that saw the student become the master, Sampha’s Process is truly deserving of this year’s Mercury Prize.
Sampha beat the likes of The xx, Glass Animals, Alt J, Stormzy, Blossoms, Katie Tempest, J Hus, The Big Moon, Loyle Carner and global megastar Ed Sheeran to win the coveted prize at the West London prize giving.
Sampha’s Process is available now to purchase and stream.
