Single Review: 3WW // Alt-J

It’s now almost three years since we’ve had anything from Alt-J to wrap our ears around. 2014’s This Is All Yours was the Leeds quartet’s sophomore offering, and was one of a rare breed of follow up albums that stood up to the quality of its predecessor. So after all this time, it’s understandable that the amount of hype surrounding their freshly announced third record RELAXER should be pretty hefty. It’s unfortunate then, for those of us that don’t take well to anticipation, that this morning the guys shared the album’s first single, 3WW, and in doing so, cranked up the levels of intrigue and blood pumping excitement to fresh new heights.

The track, which you can find below, is a riddled with classic Alt-J tropes, from metronomic basslines and harmonic hooks, to a smattering of electronic synths and delicate guitar picking, all while retaining an air of freshness. It’s an enticing first single from a band who’ve shown a mastery of their craft time and time again, and we can’t wait to hear more.

RELAXER releases on 9 June, but in the meantime, you can check out 3WW below:
