Single Review: Apocalypse // Cigarettes After Sex

Blossoming and full of a dreamy ambience, Cigarettes After Sex have freed their new single Apocalypse into the realm of reality. A track reminiscent of the Twin Peaks soundtrack, light guitar loops drip in and out of the 5-minute slow-dance alongside numbing drumming. As the layers of wistful musicianship blend together, lead singer Greg Gonzalez’s husky vocals drift in to create the ethereal climate of Apocalypse.

With the release of Apocalypse, also came the announcement of the coveted debut album from Cigarettes After Sex, which is sure to host a rally of diaphanous tracks. The band’s eponymous album is set for release on Friday 9th June, and is available for pre-order over at Partisan Records. To add to the heap of Cigarettes After Sex news, the band will also be fulfilling a run of sold-out UK dates in April, before venturing back over the Atlantic in November for a date at the Roundhouse in London, with tickets available here.

If ever a band did resemble a beautifully foggy seaside view, it’d be this New York ensemble; Apocalypse is a sonic catharsis, and eponymous debut album will undoubtedly buck that trend.
