Single Review: Blood Under My Belt // The Drums

Resurrected after their post-2014 death, New York outfit The Drums have got a new single out. Going by the less happy-go-lucky name of Blood Under My Belt, the track is a direct contrast to the darker first impression. In Blood Under My BeltThe Drums cling closely to their summery ethos; trickling guitar riffs are at home unsurprisingly, and the drums (no pun intended) command the song throughout, all of which is strung together by lead singer Johnny Pierce’s atypical vocals.

Not entirely shocking, Blood Under My Belt is quintessential listening for any fan of their signature early sounds of indie pop and electronica. The introduction of fresh sounding string arrangements, and an overall ambience bring the single into a greater realm, and just goes to show how consistently efficient the New Yorkers are at making it feel like it’s sunny outside, even if it is below freezing and raining.

The Drums are returning with their first album in 3 years, ‘Abysmal Thoughts’, set for release on June 16th – pre-order here.
In support of ‘Abysmal Thoughts’, the indie pop set-up will trek over the water for a run of UK dates in October, for full details check here.
