Single Review: How Can I Compete // The Magic Gang

Taken from their upcoming EP set for release in April, Brighton boys The Magic Gang are back with their new, summery single ‘How Can I Compete’, alongside the announcement of a massive UK tour to commence in late spring. Full of bouncy guitar, drums, and harmonious vocals, the single is the perfect soundtrack as we head out of winter and into the sunny months, and is surely destined for popularity among fans and indie-lovers alike.

With vocals not dissimilar to that of The Kooks, the track evokes themes of young love as lead vocalist Jack Kaye sings  “how can I compete // I don’t want a contest // I just want to know that you’ll be in my arms”. Incorporating the band’s signature guitar riffs and laid-back style that has treated them so well in the past, the song is cool and catchy, and serves to prove that the group’s recognition as ‘ones to watch’ in 2017 is certainly well deserved.
