Single Review: Tummy Ache // Diet Cig

After announcing their debut album Swear I’m Good At This today, which is set for a release on April 7th, the New York duo Diet Cig have bestowed upon us their newest single ‘Tummy Ache’. Acting as what the band describes as an “I feel ya to all the femme folks”, their latest release is completely apt, and refreshing.

‘Tummy Ache’ holds up a feminist attack on gender roles, with lead singer Alex Luciano angelically singing “I don’t need a man to hold my hand / that’s just something you’ll never understand” over the top of rumbling drums from Noah Bowman. The two-piece are gutsy in this offering; the combination of one guitar drawling over distortion, and cymbal-heavy drums is outlandish, and so quintessentially grunge. Suitably ’90s, the grunge influence is clear throughout, with a pretty colossal finish breaking in a whole new layer of fuzzy guitars and drums which carry the song through to its finale.

Diet Cig’s debut album Swear I’m Good At This is available to pre-order here.
